I am a singer/songwriter and entertainer! I've been streaming exclusively on Facebook so far but I am going to also try Instagram in the future.
What kind of music do you play, and do you play at public events?
I have a cover band that plays an average of 120 shows a year, anything from clubs and bars to private and corporate events. We have a variety of dance music spanning various eras and genres so most people in the crowd will find something they will enjoy. I have also released a 12 track original album in October of 2018 and have played some exclusively original shows since then, like Art Around Adams and my Album Release Show at Navajo Live.
What kind of music influences helped you create the talent that you have today?
I grew up on Mariah Carey. She was my hero all through the 90s and early 2000s. I'm a fan of the divas like Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson...if you can hit a high, powerful note, you have my attention. Their songs inspired me to sing along with them and to write that type of music for myself.
What kind of instruments do you play, and how long did it take you to learn them?
I play the tambourine, pretty easy to learn! Hehe, just kidding. I never learned to play an instrument. I tried really, but it isn't something that comes easy for me so every attempt at it failed. When I was a kid I wanted to join the marching band and play the clarinet. I never even got to hold one, couldn't make it past music theory. Then I tried to get one of those light up keyboards and follow along, but my hands were too small to reach some of the keys. When I joined a rock band a few years ago, my band mates tried to get me to play guitar. I learned three simple chords and could play along to three songs until I got bored of those songs and ditched the guitar too. Singing is where my passion lies, and I couldn't be as good of a singer if I had to concentrate on playing an instrument too. I did get myself a keyboard when I put together my home studio though, and have used it to figure out some melody parts for my songs before I send them to actual musicians to work on, or after to fill in some blanks. I surprised myself when I managed to build my entire song "Star Struck", which became the title track to my album, on a couple Garageband drum loops on my keyboard. I have yet to duplicate that.
If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
I wish we could go back to the days when talent mattered more than how many followers you can amass. I'm inspired by Mariah Carey's story, where she had a chance to get a demo into Tommy Mottola's hands and the rest is history. If that happened nowadays, they would see that nobody knows who she is and just pass, and we would have missed out on the (in my opinion) greatest singer of all time. I wonder how many amazingly talented vocalists we will never get to hear because it's all about what kind of built-in audience you have nowadays?
If you ever get a chance to meet another musician, who would it be and why?
As much as I love Mariah, I would love to meet Kelly Clarkson. Besides being another great musical inspiration for me, she seems to be very down to earth and I think we could be best friends. My ultimate dream would be to do a duet with her. I think our voices would compliment each other very well.
